Kiwiana 


During your visit students will investigate artworks, television ads, film footage and a pictorial display to discover what makes us unique as New Zealanders and the emblems and symbols we use to create our distinctive Kiwi identity.

Kiwiana Framed        Level 1-3
A picture of New Zealand with a Kiwiana symbol is framed with shiny foil.

Your Own Kiwiana Exhibition        Level 1-4
A Kiwiana creature visits an exhibition featuring a selection of Kiwiana cut-out artworks selected and framed by each student.

Kiwiana Fashion        Level 1-4
Fashion models cut out from magazines are given a Kiwiana fashion make-over and set against a Kiwiana shape background.

Scratch Kiwis        Level 1-3
Kiwis come to life using a paint scratch technique.

Kiwiana Wanted Poster        Level 2-4
A Kiwiana icon is displayed on classic Wild West Wanted poster.

Floating Kiwiana        Level 3-4
Kiwiana items float overlap each other as they float in and out of the picture plane.

Kiwiana Exhibition – Drawings        Level 3-4
A Kiwiana animal or person visits an exhibition featuring a selection of framed Kiwiana artworks drawn by each student.

Checkerboard Kiwiana        Level 3-4
Kiwiana symbols are placed in a grid like a checkerboard pattern where every second square has the same background.

Caged Kiwiana        Level 3-4
Cut-out people look through the bars at a Kiwiana symbol which is safely held behind bars.

Kiwiana Billboard        Level 3-4
Kiwiana is written in giant overlapping block letters and this becomes the shape of the artwork. Symbols are drawn in and around the lettering.

Kiwiana Machines        Level 3-4
Crazy wacky machines made using collage turn out Kiwiana items for the tourist industry.

Kiwiana Clowns        Level 3-4
A circus juggler juggles all sorts of Kiwiana items. How can he keep them all in the air at once?

Kiwiana Extreme        Level 3-4
Kiwiana icons are stacked up in a single image framed by a Kiwiana border. For example a Kiwi wearing gumboots might be coloured as a New Zealand flag and be eating kiwifruit.

Kiwiana Stained Glass Windows        Level 4
Use Kiwiana designs for your imitation stained glass window.

Kiwiana Wearable Art        Level 4
Students draw fashion models and design Kiwiana wearable art outfits for them.

Kiwiana Museum        Level 4
A cut-out museum visitor arrives at a Kiwiana museum display where exhibits are placed in display cases.
