Identity 


Contemporary artists often create artworks that relate to identity. Investigate these works and follow it up with one of the workshops below.

The Art Gallery and Me        Level 1-2
Draw a cut out of yourself at the art gallery in an exhibition of your very own pictures.

My Family Fabulously Framed        Level 1-2
Drawn family members are framed in shiny foil with added decorations.

Where Did You Get That Hat?        Level 1-4
Students use mirrors to paint themselves wearing a silly hat.

Brothers and Sisters        Level 1-4
Students make cut-outs of themselves and their siblings. Their distorted shadows extend down the paper.

Welcome to My World        Level 2-4
The focus of this visit is artworks that express identity. Students will design artworks that reveal their interests and personalities using symbols and objects floating on top of each other in space.

I’m Special        Level 2-4
The idea that each individual is important is expressed by creating a self portrait cut-out figure wearing a korowai (Maori cloak).

Me in My Bedroom        Level 2-4
Your bedroom reveals a lot about you like favourite books, pictures and toys. Will you draw it messy or tidy?

Chinese Zodiac Families        Level 2-4
Students will design an animal family portrait based on the birthdays of family members and how they relate to the animals of the Chinese zodiac.

My Name Is…        Level 3-4
Explore ways of working with your name using fancy block lettering and shading.

Painted Self Portraits        Level 3-4
Use a mirror to paint a picture of yourself.
